Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between a counselor and therapist?

Therapist is another word for counselor. Therapy is another word for counseling. You might notice I use these terms interchangeably.

Do I need a counselor?

If you are reading this, then your situation may feel bigger than what you can deal with alone. It might be a good time to make an appointment with a counselor and discuss how counseling might help.

What if I have family and friends I talk to often?

You, your family and your friends haven't done anything wrong if you need some additional support. There are times in our lives when we need extra help and the most loving thing we can choose is to take care of ourselves.

How many times do I need to see a counselor before I feel better?

I don't have a simple answer to this question. Some people report feeling better after just making an appointment. Finding the answers and solutions you seek will take time.

What happens during the first session?

I will talk to you about the intake paperwork you fill out before the session. I want you to fully understand the limits of a counseling relationship. Also, I will ask you questions that will help me prepare for the next session. You might feel uncomfortable at first, because I will know details about your life and you will know very little about my life. I don't expect you to tell me everything about your past or current situation the first time we meet. It will take time to build a trusting relationship and for you to share private information. I will move at your pace.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes, I currently accept BCBS of Texas.

What is the cost of a 50 minute session?

I currently charge $100.00 a session.

Do you work with children?

Yes, I work with children ages 13+ and require a caregiver to be in the room during therapy until it becomes therapeutically advantageous to meet with the child alone.

Do you offer evening and weekend appointments?

Yes, I offer appointments Monday from12:00pm-7:00pm, Tuesday from 12:00pm-6:00pm, Wednesday from 11:00am-6:00pm, Thursday from 10:00am-6:00pm, Friday from 2:00pm-6:00pm, and Saturday from 10:00am-2:00pm.
